The Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) has established the Fire Investigation Unit to carry out research on the causes of fires and recommend Safety & Prevention measures to ensure community safety. The Fire Safety & Investigation has been started keeping in view the increasing number of fires which is putting lives & properties of citizens at risk. The Emergency Service has managed over 13,513 fire incidents in 12 major cities of Punjab in two & half years. The need for Fire Investigation has been strongly felt to identify the fire causes to ensure fire safety. Therefore, specialized fire investigation training has been imparted to six emergency officers of Rescue 1122 by the Strethclyde Fire & Rescue, . Bailie Hanzala Malik, Councelor Glasgow played instrumental role in arranging this specialized training. This training is the 2^nd training program in a series of trainings conducted after signing of Memorandum of understanding between Brain P. Sweeny Chief Officer, Strethclyde Fire & Rescue, and Dr. Rizwan Naseer, Director General, Punjab Emergency Service for collaboration in training. The Fire investigation training has also been imparted to the District Emergency Officers of Rescue 1122 by the officers trained by Strethclyde Fire & Rescue, at Emergency Services Academy . After this training now the emergency staff at District level is also trained in the techniques of Fire investigation & Fire Safety. Although, the Emergency Service has saved over Rs. 14 Billion by timely response and professional firefighting on modern lines in 13,513 fire incidents, however fire prevention system also needs to be established which is possible only after community intervention & participation. The Fire Safety Codes in high rise buildings and Fire Preventive measures in industrial areas can lead towards establishment of safe communities.
