Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue1122) has rescued 87955 victims of Road Traffic Accidents while responding to 81203 Road Traffic Accidents in Lahore since its inception in October, 2004, besides maintaining its average record response time of less than seven minutes in all major cities of
Punjab .The Director General, Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue1122) reviewed the emergency data of Road Traffic Accidents to evolve an effective emergency preparedness strategy. The Service is now operational in all major cities of Punjab which includes Lahore, Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, Multan, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Murree, Sialkot, Gujranwala, Sargodha and Sahiwal, while it will be operational in all districts of
Punjab by the end of current year. The data of Road Traffic Accidents in
Lahore shows that males are 53.06% more vulnerable as compared to the females because out of these 87955 victims of Road Traffic Accidents 76.53% involved men and 23.47% involved women.The comparison of age group shows that bread winner age group of 26 to 55 years is most exposed to Road Traffic Accidents which is 55.01% while 1 to 25 years are 40.89% exposed and above 51 years are just 4.11%. The data of vehicles involved in Road Traffic Accidents shows that Bikes were involved in 45.41% Road Traffic Accidents while cars were 26.26%, Buses 0.58%, Trucks 0.63%, Vans 3.77% and Rickshaws 23.36%. The emergency data of Road Traffic Accidents shows that 31.56% Road Traffic Accidents were caused by Over Speeding, 21.26% due to Carelessness, 7.51% due to Wrong Turn, 5.13% due to U-turns and 34.55% due to other causes. The data regarding injuries due to Road Traffic Accidents shows that 44.35% were Minor Injuries, 23.41% were Multiple Fractures, 17.53% were Leg Fractures, 10.76% Head Injuries and 3.6% Spinal Injuries. Director General said that after responding over 81203 Road Traffic Accidents now the Service has launched public awareness campaign for building safer communities through prevention of emergencies.
