The data regarding fire emergencies in all major cities of Punjab was reviewed by the Director General, Punjab Emergency Service (Resuce1122) Dr. Rizwan Naseer to evolve an effective preparedness and response strategy and to further enhance the performance of ’s first Modern Fire Service. The data has revealed that the Service has saved over 12,471 fire emergencies from turning into disaster due to timely response and fire fighting on modern lines in all major cities of Punjab since the launching of ’s first Modern Fire Service, while maintaining its average record response time of less than seven minutes. The total number of fire emergency calls responded by Rescue 1122 since the launching of Pakistan’s first Modern Fire Service were 12471, which included 5244 fire emergency calls in Lahore, 1910 in Faisalabad, 1182 in Rawalpindi, 278 in Bahawalpur, 852 in Multan, 294 in Dera Ghazi Khan, 369 in Rahim Yar Khan, 278 in Sahiwal, 700 in Sialkot, 852 Gujranwala, 66 in Murree, and 337in Sargodha. The data for the month of August, 2009 reveals that the service has saved the expected loss of 941.60 millions while responding to 368 fire emergencies in all major cities of
Punjab . The data for the month of August, 2009 further shows that 51.35% fires occurred due to Short Circuit, 4.35% due to Gas Leakage, 0.82% due to Cylinder Blast, 8.42% due to Cigarette, 0.54% due to Candle Flame, 1.09 % due to Fireworks, 23.37% due to unknown reason and 10.05% fires occurred due to Miscellaneous causes. Dr. Rizwan Naseer requested the citizens to immediately dial 1122 in case of any emergency because only timely call especially in case of a fire emergency is extremely essential for restricting fire from getting out of control.
